So here’s a recap of the 28 Drawings Later drawing challenge I did last month…better late than never!
Although I didn’t make it to the full 28 drawings, I think I did OK. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone by using ink and pastels, which leave no margin for error – if you make a mistake you just have to live with it.
Most of the studies were done from photographs although they’re not really portraits. I was interested in the shape of the head and trying to capture the expression. I felt I was gaining confidence by the end of the month and now I want to explore the anatomy of the face more. Not had much time for drawing so far this month…so I’ll need to make more of an effort to set time aside if I want to get it done.
And now for something completely different – new heirloom dolls. It did feel a bit like I had a split personality working on the drawings and dolls simultaneously but I enjoy doing both so why not…?
I was commissioned by a lovely lady to make a cat prince doll to celebrate the arrival of a baby boy. To give her a choice, I decided to make two – double the fun! She opted for the one below with the turquoise face. I don’t do many commissions because I always get stressed about whether the customer will like what I’ve made… However I needn’t have worried.
She wrote saying: little Prince exceeded all my expectations!
I couldn’t have been happier!
Which leaves the second Prince Cat Doll looking for a new owner… I think he’s very handsome…don’t you?
